「普羅旺斯的漢詩」是梁秉鈞今年夏天最新出版的詩集，收2006至今未結集的新詩。詩集起源於作者2006年夏天應邀任阿爾卑斯山上沙可慈修道院（Saorge Monastery)駐院作家，以及2008年重訪故地及游歷普羅旺斯所寫的三輯詩作。作者感受南法的陽光香草、和煦人情，重讀中國古詩，與想像中的中法詩人畫家往來對話，加入日後不同的文化旅游、人情來往，發展成思索種種人生軌跡的六闕新章。「普羅旺斯的漢詩」詩作溫煦甜美，跟詩人近作「在不安定的日子」(MCCM出版)及發表在「字花」一輯新作「城市魅彩」十首的苦澀清奇又見不同，是詩人風格的兩面。

澳洲詩人謝雅崙在澳洲和香港出版過多本詩集和兒童讀物，現居住於布利斯本，他是香港OutLoud每月讀詩會的創始者之一。至今他一共出版了五本詩歌集，卻以《想出名的鱷魚》最為人所熟悉，書的靈感來自那條出現在香港水域十個月之久的元朗小灣鱷「貝貝」。他最新的中英雙語詩集《似乎》（中文譯文者樊星）由澳門故事協會於七月出版。

Coming out this summer, Leung Ping-Kwan’s newest book of poetry Chinese poems from Provence features poems written since 2006 that have not been previously published in a collection. This work originates from Leung’s visits to the Saorge Monastery on the Alps in the summer of 2006, and his re-exploration of Aix-en-Provence in 2008 which had inspired him to write three new series of poems. In this newest book, Leung writes of the sunshine, the grassy aroma, and the friendly nature of the people he met in Southern France. These cultural explorations -- including a revisit of classical Chinese poetry and imaginary conversations with Chinese and French poets/artists– have produced six new series of contemplative verses. The combination of Chinese poems from Provence and his recent work en ces jours instables (published by MCCM), along with a new series of poems titled  ”Shades of the City” (that appeared in  Fleurs des Lettres), promises an exceptional poetic experience that only a poet of Leung’s stature can deliver.

Alan Jefferies is an Australian poet and children's author, currently living in Brisbane. He is one of the co-founders of OutLoud, Hong Kong’s longest running spoken-word event. He has published five books of poetry in Australia but is best known as the author of The Crocodile Who Wanted to be Famous (Sixth Finger Press) which is based on the life of Hong Kong’s celebrity crocodile, Pui Pui. His latest poetry book “Seem”, a  bilingual translation of English and Chinese( Chinese translation by Iris Fan Xing), is coming out in July by ASM Macao. 

Perceptions

In the June session, Gillian read from her latest poetry book Perceptions. After concluded a teaching profession, she quickly picked up full responsibilities as a publisher together with her husband, Verner Bickley. She revealed spending too much time communicating in emails now. Sometimes, she wishes to communicate less. 

The cover of Perceptions is a reflection of Gillian taking photos in Barcelona and in this afternoon, she was excitedly taking picture in front of the signage screen. Being a keen observer, she can tell stories in poetry from the stare of the black jaguar in the Botanic Garden, from a sincere person acting out of one’s own heart and will to help the beggars. More importantly, her poetry speaks her own mind.

One audience worried being a journalist for a long period of time will hinder creative writing because her daily writing only answers the questions of when, where and what. Gillian responded to that she also spent some years working as administration and such experience was too tired for creative writing.

Gillian is a determined achiever. She works extremely hard from six in the morning until mid-night, evidenced by her husband. Fortunate enough, she still keeps her summer times and takes her to-write “poetry note” along when embarking on the summer vocation.

Gillian Bickley, born and educated in the United Kingdom, has lived mostly in Hong Kong since 1970.

Perceptions, this fifth poetry collection, consists of short pieces, poetry or poem-like essays, written over a period of thirty years, on various serious and reflective topics, but with some humorous and occasional work too. As in Gillian Bickley's previous collections, the subjects occur internationally: this time, in the Pyrenees, Nigeria, Hawai'i, Albania, as well as Hong Kong. 

Taken as a whole, this collection recognizes the need for shelter and survival, the desire for love, for achievement, for feelings of self-worth, for objects on which to bestow reciprocal affection and the search for high-order achievements beyond the self. Reaching beyond this, Perceptions considers the needs of other species, our responsibilities towards them and the fragile environment that we all share.

米米的釘子林

該天各方友好齊集在百老匯電影中心，這包括了新詩創作坊的同學、學生和一些喜歡詩的朋友，參加由米米擔任嘉賓的詩歌分享會，一同經歷了一次很美好的互動交流。開首，米米先談及他在互聯網發表創作的經驗，以及在網上從其他詩人及朋友獲得的反饋，他說這些寶貴的意見對他作為一位習詩人來說，很有參考作用。此外，他還分享了他前往中國內地與其他詩人的真誠對話，他認為這種交流和溝通，對他很有意義，這亦是鼓勵他繼續創作的動力。

米米除了分享其他詩人的作品外，還即場朗讀了他本人的創作 --- 詩作《無題》是一首他為一位名「十三」的詩人朋友所寫的。其他參與分享會的朋友亦朗讀了他的幾首詩，包括《某些事我沒有忘記》、 《你是》及 《病院日誌》。 米米對現今的香港詩壇有很直接和深刻的評論，但同時他是一位十分謙厚的作家，他拒絕以詩人自居，只稱自已是一位習詩人。

米米先生，原名胡惠文。中年的習詩人。畢業於浸會大學，作品散見於喜函文學網(大陸)、吹鼓吹文學論壇(台灣)、詩先峰(大陸)、漢詩雙月刊(大陸)、〈風球詩刊〉(台灣)、〈聲韻〉詩刊(香港)、曾獲香港某詩歌比賽教師組二等獎，作品有〈米米的釘子林〉詩集。

Fifty Stories and Fifty Images

In the April session of Kubrick Poetry, Madeleine Marie Slavick shared her latest book Fifty Stories and Fifty Images.  The significance of the book was immediately apparent early in our discussion as Madeleine revealed that she would be leaving Hong Kong in the very near future, and would be away for several years.  So the book is her gift to Hong Kong and to her friends in this city where she has lived longer than any other place.

Madeleine read “Bak Lan” and “Neighbors,” stories that depict the lives of ordinary people -- like children, grandmother, a person selling flowers, etc -- whose existence makes her reflect and rejoice.  In her stories we taste congee, smell incense, and feel the closeness to the others whose lives are happening in the same building, somewhere very close to us, or in places we often overlook.  She also shared stories like “Block 15” and “Ginger Lily” that depict unexpected incidents that can happen even in places that are familiar to us.

Friends talked about how delightful it has been to receive a Madeleine story by email every now and then.  They appreciate Madeleine’s genuine storytelling voice.  Madeleine herself emphasized the importance of using simple language that the reader can easily understand and relate.

She brought her own slide projector to show us some of the photographs from the book.  Some images were taken from places in Hong Kong where she lived.  She is particularly interested in abstract photography. 

One line from the story “Wordless” really resonates: “I try not to take more power than anyone else”.  This sentiment really captures Madeleine’s tender relationship with the people of Hong Kong and her sensitivity toward those whose first-language is not English. 

We send our best wishes to Madeleine as she embarks on a journey away from Hong Kong where she will no doubt continue take pictures and write stories.

Madeleine Marie Slavick (思樂維), a writer and photographer, has made Hong Kong her home for almost twenty-five years. Her books include Something Beautiful Might Happen (Tokyo, 2010), My Favourite Thing <我最寶貴的> (Beijing and Taipei, 2005), Delicate Access <微妙之途> (Hong Kong, 2004), and Round - Poems and Photographs of Asia (Hong Kong, 1998). Round won a Bumbershoot Book Award in Seattle and My Favourite Thing was a bestseller in Beijing. Madeleine has held photo exhibits in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America, and has edited or published about thirty books in Hong Kong, where she has also worked as a social worker, guidance counselor, teacher, environmental campaigner and publisher. She writes and photographs every day at her blog: touching what I love.

Madeleine will be sharing from her latest book Fifty Stories Fifty Images, a small book of prose and photography that explores insects and high rises, dentists and trees, laughter and abstractions, and the poetry, poverty and generosity of Hong Kong.
