Gillian Bickley was born and educated in the United Kingdom and has lived mostly in Hong Kong since 1970. Her poetry has been anthologised in different countries and has been translated into several languages. Bickley has held academic university positions in Hong Kong, Nigeria and New Zealand. She has recently concluded a career as a University teacher of English Literature. With her husband, Verner Bickley, she is co-founder of The Proverse Literary Prize for unpublished writing.

“China Suite and other Poems” is her fourth collection of poems in which she responds to people, art and life, creating a record of her particular space in time such as Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Sukhothai, Honolulu, Mexico City and northernmost Scotland. Gillian finds poetry in everyday life.

沃爾夫岡·顧彬(Wolfgang Kubin)，是德國漢學家、詩人和翻譯家，是中國以外最重要的漢學家之一。 顧彬擔任波恩大學的漢學系主任教授，亦同時擔任《袖珍漢學》和《東方‧方向》兩份重要德文漢學和亞洲文化雜誌的主編。研究領域以中國古典文學､現當代文學及中國思想史為主，他以翻譯現代中國散文和中國詩歌而在漢學界為人所知。他的《二十世紀中國文學史》（華東師范大學出版社）是他重要的中文著作之一。

是次詩會以德語､中文和英語朗誦，顧彬與我們簡單地讀詩談詩。

Wolfgang Kubin is a German sinologist, poet and translator, one of the most important sinologists living outside China. He is the director of the University of Bonn’s for Institute of Chinese Studies, also the editor for both the influential Sinologist journal “Minima Sinica” and periodical journal “ Orientations”. His research areas includes classical Chinese literature, contemporary and modern literature and Chinese philosophy/ His translations of prose and poetry earn him a wider reputation among sinologists worldwide. “The History of Chinese Literature in 20th Century” published by Huadong Shifan Daxue in Shanghai is one of his major Chinese work.

Kubin will read his poems and talk about poetry with us. The readings will be in German, Chinese and English.

As I have only attended your reading sessions twice, I am not in a position to give constructive comments. However, I think it would be nice if you could give a short introduction of the poet, say, for three or four minutes in the beginning, so that people will know more about him / her. Also, would it be more effective if the interview follows the reading, so that we can get more familiar with the poet and his work first and thus appreciate better the questions and answers.

I started going to kubrick poetry two years ago. It was because at that time I started to be interested in poetry, and was delighted to know that there's a poetry grouping Hong Kong. Kubrick poetry gave me a warm, and welcomed environment to enjoy poetry. Polly is a nice and friendly organiser who very much enjoyed poetry. In overall sense, kubrick poetry is well-organised with invitation of special guests from different walks of life, which broaden the horizons of audiences. Here, I have met several friends who also enjoy poetry and we would gather together to attend poetry gatherings,talks, etc.

Kubrick poetry uses the guest-audience approach to meet readers. I believe it is somehow an effective approach which can easily control the flow of the whole gathering. However, it would be monotone if we just gather and listen. Luckily, kubrick poetry has been organising some outdoor actitivies, so that we can experience poetry outside the "box".

Kubrick poetry gave me support and nutured me how to make life better with poetry. If there's no Kubrick poetry, it would not have We-er. (We-er is a self-formed poetry group which aims to lead audiences to enjoy and experience poetry)

I’ve been to Kubrick Poetry twice, the first one was in Joseph’s Galerie Klee, a delicate art gallery; the other one was my professor and friend Steve’s reading from his new book. I had a great time reading poems by Joseph and Steve, listening to the background stories about the poems, and meeting with the “masters” and other poetry lovers. Happy Birthday to Kubrick Poetry! I hope it will last forever! And I wish I could have my own poetry reading in Kubrick one day!

雷聲與蟬鳴

《雷聲與蟬鳴》是梁秉鈞的第一本詩集，此書細分七個部份：未昇、突發性演出、香港、澳門、廣州／肇慶、臺灣、浮苔。細心一看，你可以從這本詩集看到梁秉鈞後期的發展脈絡，包括城市研究﹑文化研究﹑食物詩的延伸。

復刻版於二零零九年由文化工房出版，袁兆昌找來詩集同齡人一起重新創造，江康泉（江記）和智海是書本的幀裝設計師，智海又是繪圖師。復刻版選用較為昂貴的瑞典紙，江記直言喜歡這紙前後不一的觸感，半透明的瑞典紙可以看到背面未完的詩句，柔軟的瑞典紙正好適合習慣一手捲起書皮閱讀的讀者，江記說：「薄薄的紙有點像蟬翼呢。」智海的一幅手描畫被切割成六份，成為此書的插圖，他認為雷聲是來自天上的雷神，後來他在畫上加添了一個可以呼風喚兩雨的雷神。從紙張選取到繪圖，當中的心思是顯而易見。袁兆昌坦言特種紙張加上亮麗的黑色書邊令成本提高了不少，他笑說有朋友說這是文化工房出版以來最漂亮的一本書。

新出復刻版原來並非指板畫設計，相反，原版的《雷聲與蟬鳴》的封面設計才是板畫，抽刀者是板畫藝術家劉掬色（原名劉佩儀），新舊版同場展示，舊版看上並不古老，它依然是落落大方。

三十年前寫下的詩句，今天再讀，仍然有時代感。辟如其中一首名為《信》的詩，詩人在趕稿的時候桌面上放著一封「你」的來信：

有時有人喚出我的名字

我還在這裡

低頭工作

偶然想想你的來信

偶然站起來

給自己再倒一杯咖啡

江記說得很傳神：「這情況就像現在我們一邊工作一邊開ＭＳＮ聊天。」梁秉鈞說再讀當年的詩，一些當年的事或感受未必清楚記得，但若然寫成詩句，再讀又會重拾舊記憶。

在場的杜家祁說她教新詩一定教這兩首詩，其一是《青晨》，其二是《聽歌》。《青晨》的妙處在這個「青」字，在熱咖啡和烤麵包的餐桌上找夢，找到的是淡綠的重影。　

熱咖啡和烤麵包

還有我的夢呢

在暗涼淡綠的重影中

咖啡壺兀自在一角蒸氣發熱

《聽歌》是一首長詩，情節像電影剪接過的片段，當天我們很不浪漫地每人讀一小節，把它完成。

《雷聲與蟬鳴》，如杜家祁所言，會在香港文學史上佔一席位，不論你手上擁有的是新版或是舊版，它的分量是一樣的重。

原版為大拇指半月刊出版之《雷聲與蟬鳴》。此書絕版三十載，見證香港文學發展，影響幾代香港作家。由文化工房召集與詩集同齡的創作人，為梁秉鈞的第一本詩集重新設計，復刻重印，讓新生代讀者有機會閱讀它。這本書感動我們，不止於它的新封面，它代表了兩代人的生命延續，是新一代獻給梁秉鈞的一份禮物。

翻開詩集，你會讀到梁秉鈞於三十年前寫下的詩句，讀到他當年的熱情和詩意，今天再讀，仍是首首新詩。這次我們和梁秉鈞､袁兆昌等一起說《雷聲與蟬鳴》的做書過程。

二月是一個特別的月份，自從零六年二月創立至今，Kubrick詩會邁進第五個年頭，詩會結束後有一個簡單的慶祝，歡迎各位朋友到來， 在此感謝一直支持我們的朋友。

A Voice from Texas

It is a wonderful way to start a new year for the light! Poetry illuminates hope, passion and joy. It reaches us as a connection of the past, present and future. More, it connects people’s heart.

With the will to do a book launch at Kubrick, Steven Schroeder shipped 5 of his new poetry book “a dim sum of the day before” all the way from Texas to Hong Kong. Texas is a dear place to Steven for he grew up in Texas Panhandle. The memory of the plain is deeply rooted in his subconsciousness. Wherever he is or whatever he is writing about, his friends put is, he is talking about Texas.

Granted with mulit-talents, Steven is a writer and professor at the University of Chicago and Shenzhen University, a co-founder and organizer of the VAC(Virtual Arts Collective) and the Chicago-Kuming poetry group respectively. Steven is a philosopher and poet. He is interested in understanding the relationship of poetry with philosophy and he publishes extensively on this subject. Before writing poetry, he is actually a painter and he still paints and draws. Perhaps the best way to introduce Steven as and just as “Steve”.

People often ask him when he is in China “Why do you come to China?” or “Why do you go to China?” when he is in Chicago. In answering these questions, he wrote a poem “For the Light” included in the new poetry book.

I come to China to learn to walk away /for the light / for silence in a wall of sound/ for the leaves, always autumn/ for the children / for the tricycle flower garden / OR

No one goes anywhere for any reason

but for love, drawn

by circles of friends, driven

by circles broken.

There is no place

but this.

没有人无缘无故去某个地方

除了爱，还被

朋友圈子吸引，被

拆开的圈子驱使。

没有地方可去

Apart from being a writer, professor, philosopher, poet and painter, Steven is the dearest teacher, mentor and friend for his students. In the process of contacting and preparation, some of his students write to me, expressing the pain they have to think of him being away to Chicago for half year’s time.

Writing poetry is a process of slowing down. In slowing down, you will have a better concentration, better analysis, better quality of living and a better breath of air. Steven will agree on this, will you?
